About Sam's Dolby Atmos Tips
Based in Bristol, South West England – Dsoundz Media is a small team made up of Sam Downie and other creatives who are obsessed with all things music and film. We exist to support the music-making / film-making community; from composing, producing all the way through to Dolby Atmos mix engineering.
We don’t just do music/audio, we do Immersive.
Sam Downie is a prominent mixing engineer / producer known for his work on top-charting albums and singles, working alongside artists/bands such as Massive Attack, Roni Size, Jazz Jamaica, Simply Red, Ezra Collective, Martina Topley-Bird, Fat Freddy’s Drop and Tomorrows Warriors.
He specializes in Dolby Atmos mixes, adding immersive depth and vitality to instrumentation while ensuring radio-ready and film-ready quality.
In March 2024, Sam passed the Dolby Atmos verification and quality control tests set by Universal Music Group (uk), he is now able to mix in Atmos for artists and labels as well as dub post production for Independent Films, Film Studios and Television Shows.Sam honed his craft as an assistant to BAFTA and Ivors award-winning composer Edward Williams, working for BBC Natural History in the late 1990’s/00’s.
Notable achievements include mixing at The Coach House the recording studio in Bristol England that was home to the famous Bristol Sounds, where Massive Attack, Tricky, Portishead and Roni Size recorded and mixed their albums.
Sam has also remixed tracks by The Black Eyed Peas, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Peter Gabriel (Realworld Records / Universal Music) , Martina Topley-Bird (Tricky) and Artful (aka Mark Hill) (Workhouse Records). Listen to these mixes here www.dsoundz.co.uk/music-composer
Recent projects also feature scoring and mixing short films which have become BAFTA nominated, immersive mixes that showcase Sam’s versatility and expertise in the music and film industry.
